Psychotherapy and counseling are therapies used to improve mental health and well-being.
Counseling is a short-term, symptomatic therapy focused on addressing specific concerns and for milder issues.
Psychotherapy is prescribed for moderate to severe conditions. It is a longer-term process, involving in-depth work that helps people identify causes, explore recurring themes and issues in themselves. Clinicians who practice psychotherapy receive extensive training. In India, Psychotherapists are licensed practioners and they are certified by Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI under Section 19 of RCI Act, 1992) to treat mental health conditions.
These are relational cures. Psychotherapy and Counseling is a two-way process that operates via establishing a professional, healing therapeutic relationship with your doctor. During psychotherapy, one collaborates with therapist to develop an understand of one’s symptoms, signs and problematic patterns. In therapy, the therapist helps the person learn about his/her condition and understand its overall effects on relations, moods, feelings, thoughts and behaviors. Psychotherapy helps one learn how to regulate problematic patterns as well as take control of your life and respond to challenging situations with healthy coping skills. Psychotherapy can help clients/patients live happier, healthier, and more productive lives.
Ideally, the therapeutic relationship has a clear starting point and ending point. It progresses through the 4 clearly set stages outlined: commitment, process, change, and termination.
There are many types of psychotherapy, each with its own approach. Most of them involve integrative interventions with all patients and their family/support group: Medicinal, Psychosocial, Family intervention with Structured Psychotherapy.

It is not advised. Just as one-size doesn’t fit all. Not everyone is suitable for psychotherapy.
Once a person is in complete remission i.e.80-90% out of the disorder, usually the effects of your treatments would last anywhere between 3-6months. Yet the long-term effects of therapy are determined by many factors. The role of your doctor is to help you stay well and increase the wellness periods. The doctors helps in managing you as well as the factors associated with time-to-relapse, recurrence, rebound and recovery in any psychological disorder/psychiatric disorder.
Not everyone benefits from psychotherapy/counseling. Also not everyone who benefits from it, is actually diagnosed with a mental illness.
